Monica Patten
Research and Commercialization Director
Monica grew up in Gillette and currently lives in Green River, WY. She began her career as an industrial chemist. Over 14 years she contributed to commercialized chemical products which have a combined Net Organic Sales of approximately $2 billion per year for her previous employers. She is the co-inventor on four U.S. patents, one provisional application to patent, and numerous international patents. She has done extensive literature and patent surveying while in the industry. Monica has worked in medicinal chemistry at Pfizer in oncology, antiviral, and ophthalmology therapeutic areas. She has also worked at Procter & Gamble in hair colorants. Her new dye work at P&G ranged from early research, test product evaluation, formulation, and process development for manufacturing. Monica has also developed synthetic manufacturing processes at PPG for OLED materials. Previous to joining the SBDC, Monica counseled start-ups and developed new start-up competitions and educational programs across southwest Wyoming at University of Wyoming’s IMPACT 307. Monica’s specialty is helping innovative start-ups with customer discovery, intellectual property strategy, product development, and commercialization.
