As Wyoming businesses get ready for the changing seasons, fall is a great time to plan, reflect, and look for new opportunities. Companies considering growth beyond the U.S. should remember that exporting can open doors to new markets, increase sales, and build long-term strength. The Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM) is one of the most valuable resources available to help reduce the risks of international trade.
Alexis Bascombe, a Business Development Specialist at EXIM, highlights an important financing tool that helps American companies compete globally. Securing an international purchase order is a big milestone, but fulfilling it often requires extra working capital before the overseas customer pays.
EXIM's Working Capital Loan Guarantee helps with this challenge by giving a 90% loan guarantee to participating lenders. By reducing the lender's risk, EXIM helps eligible U.S. exporters get financing for export-related costs. This includes labor, equipment, materials, supplies, and the inventory needed to complete international sales.
To make export financing even more accessible, EXIM introduced its Community Lender Enhancement Initiative. This program makes it simpler for community banks and regional lenders to offer export financing by streamlining paperwork. It also lets EXIM monitor the collateral for certain deals. This means more access to money through local lenders that small businesses already know and trust.
In another important update, EXIM recently reduced the minimum amount of U.S. content required for working capital loans from 50% down to as little as 10%. This change could allow more businesses to qualify for export financing and create new opportunities for companies that might not have been eligible before.
Whether a business is getting ready for its first international sale or expanding into new markets, programs like those from EXIM can reduce risk. They also provide the financial support needed to pursue global growth.
A special thanks to Alexis Bascombe, Business Development Specialist with the Export-Import Bank of the United States, for sharing these important updates and helping to educate businesses about the tools available to support exporting success.
